GEMMOLOGY SOLUTIONS

Advanced Spectroscopy for Gemstone Analysis

Integrated Raman, UV–Vis–NIR, fluorescence and photoluminescence solutions for gemstone identification, treatment assessment and advanced gemmological analysis.

FOUR ANALYTICAL TECHNOLOGIES

Complementary Spectroscopy for Gemmology

RAMAN SPECTROSCOPY

Gemstone Identification & Inclusion Analysis

Raman spectroscopy enables molecular identification of gemstones and mineral inclusions through characteristic vibrational signatures, with microscopic targeting for advanced analysis.

UV–Vis–NIR Spectroscopy

Chromophore & Treatment Analysis

UV–Vis–NIR spectroscopy reveals absorption features associated with chromophores, treatments and compositional differences across the visible and near-infrared range.

UV-Fluorescence

Fluorescence Screening & Comparison

UV-fluorescence spectroscopy provides fast, non-destructive screening of emission features useful for comparing natural, treated and synthetic gemstones.

Photoluminescence

Trace-Element & Emission Analysis

Photoluminescence resolves diagnostic emission features and trace-element signatures using the same modular platform as the Gem Raman System.

FEATURED GEMOLOGY SYSTEMS

Integrated Platforms for Gemstone Analysis

RAMAN MICROSCOPY

Gurzil Raman Microscope

Dedicated Raman microscopy platform for microscopic targeting, gemstone identification and inclusion analysis in 532 nm, 785 nm and dual-wavelength configurations.

COMPACT RAMAN

Gem Raman System

Compact 532 nm Raman platform for fast gemstone identification, reference matching and routine gemmological analysis.

UV–VIS–NIR GEMMOLOGY

UV–Vis–NIR Gemology Kit

Portable spectroscopy platform for chromophore analysis, treatment screening and spectral comparison across approximately 350–1050 nm.

MULTI-TECHNIQUE GEMMOLOGY

Gemology Dual Kit

Integrated UV–Vis–NIR and UV-fluorescence platform combining absorption and emission spectroscopy in a single complementary gemmological workflow.

SOFTWARE & SPECTRAL DATABASES

From Measurement to Identification

THUNDERVIEW RAMAN

Raman Identification & Spectral Matching

ThunderView Raman enables acquired spectra to be compared with reference libraries, visualizes candidate matches and supports gemstone identification using characteristic Raman signatures.

Compatible with RRUFF and custom user spectral databases.

THUNDERVIEW UV-VIS-NIR

Spectral Comparison & Gem Matching

ThunderView UV–Vis–NIR supports spectral visualization, overlays and comparison of gemstone spectra across the 350–1050 nm range..

Automated spectral matching with reference libraries is being introduced in the upcoming software release.

SPECTRAL DATABASES

Reference Libraries & Custom Databases

Reference spectral libraries provide known comparison data for gemstone identification and help users interpret experimental Raman and UV–Vis–NIR measurements.

Users can also build and organize their own spectral libraries from measured reference samples.

REAL-WORLD APPLICATIONS

Gemology Case Studies

Explore real measurements and analytical workflows using Raman microscopy, UV–Vis–NIR spectroscopy and complementary optical techniques for gemstone characterization.

TRAINING & SCIENTIFIC SUPPORT

Professional Gemology Workshops & Training

Thunder Optics collaborates with Marco Longhi, owner of WPS Longhi, Italy, to provide professional gemology workshops and scientific training focused on modern spectroscopic methods and practical gemstone analysis.

These workshops combine classical gemological observation with advanced analytical techniques such as Raman spectroscopy, UV–Vis–NIR absorption, fluorescence and photoluminescence. The objective is not only to teach instrument operation, but also to help participants interpret spectra and integrate the results into a complete gemological workflow.

Training sessions can be adapted to different levels, from introductory workshops for gemologists beginning to use spectroscopy, to more advanced programs focused on treatment detection, synthetic stones, inclusions, spectral databases and multi-technique interpretation.

Practical work with real gemstones is an essential part of the training. Thanks to Marco Longhi’s extensive collection of gemological samples, participants can work on stones with known origins, treatments and diagnostic features.

Training is organized on demand, online from Italy through WPS, and is currently offered as individual training for Thunder Optics customers only.

PRACTICAL WORKSHOPS

Hands-On Gemstone Analysis

Practical sessions combine classical gemological observation with Raman, UV–Vis–NIR, fluorescence and photoluminescence measurements. Participants learn how to acquire spectra, compare them with reference data and interpret the results in a gemological context.

CUSTOM PROGRAMS

From Introductory to Advanced Levels

Training is adapted to the participant’s experience and objectives, from spectroscopy fundamentals to treatment detection, synthetic stones, inclusions, spectral databases and multi-technique interpretation.

INDIVIDUAL ONLINE TRAINING

One-to-One Sessions with WPS

Sessions are organized on demand and delivered online from Italy through WPS. Content, duration and covered topics are adapted to the customer’s Thunder Optics instruments and analytical needs.
